Sumaya - Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprentice - Case Study

Sumaya like many other sixth form leavers wanted to find an opportunity after school and secure her future. By turning to her careers manager for guidance she has now found the opportunity she was looking for. Within a matter of two weeks the team here at Swift Childcare were able to answer her question of 'what's next'.

How did you find the process with Swift to support you into an apprenticeship?

I found the process with Swift nice and easy. Mohammad (Careers Manager at Stepney All Saints School), Stuart (Apprentice Coordinator at Swift) and Lisa (Business Development manager at Swift) guided me and helped me throughout the process. They communicated very well and I had a great amount of information from them including help with interviews.

What were you doing before Swift?

Before I joined Swift I was in sixth form doing a Health and Social care level 3 role. This was okay but not what I wanted to do, I wanted to go into childcare.

Why did you want to do an apprenticeship instead of University or further education?

I wanted to gain practical experience, rather than studying in a classroom as I learn better by seeing how things are done.

Where did you find out about Swift?

I found out about Swift through the Careers Manager in my sixth form (Mohammad).

Where did you apply?

As it was a referral Stuart from Swift reached out to start the application process. Although it was a lengthy process, things were laid out easily for me to complete.

Do you know how the apprenticeship works?

I understand that 20% of the apprenticeship is coursework based and the rest is practical I will be doing the course for 13 months and gain a childcare qualification at the end.

Do you know what your role consists of?

My role will include taking care of the children, making sure they’re well fed, sleep well, do not hurt themselves.

Do you have any ideas on progression after this apprenticeship?

After the 13 months, this apprenticeship will help me to get the qualification I want and gain employment within a nursery or a school. Probably more towards a nursery as a room leader because I would like to work with the younger kids.

What do you aim to achieve?

I want to gain the qualification. I aim to become a better person by helping any one of the kids in the nursery, work alongside my colleagues and support them.
