Not every learner thrives in a traditional classroom setting. For Laiba from Greater Manchester, college just was not the right fit. “I was not enjoying college. I’m not someone who likes sitting down in a classroom and studying,” she explains. After months of searching for an apprenticeship that suited her style, she discovered Swift Childcare and everything changed.
Laiba wanted a role that was practical, engaging and fun. “I was just looking for an apprenticeship in Childcare… something that I could enjoy at the same time.” She knew that gaining real-world experience while learning was important and the apprenticeship route offered exactly that. “It’s a hands-on job and I think employers will like the fact that I have experience from my apprenticeship.”
What drew her to Swift in particular was the company’s reputation and supportive team. “They’re a big company, a lot of people have qualifications from Swift, I saw reviews online and I thought that is what I needed to do. Everyone was really supportive during the recruitment process and it made me feel really welcomed.”
Laiba also appreciated the personal support she received during onboarding. Natalie, a member of the Swift team, helped guide her through the process. “I had a few interviews that did not go well, which really put me down, but Natalie continued to support me and helped me get interviews. It really boosted my confidence.”
Since starting in May, Laiba has loved the balance between studying and working. “I feel like it’s perfect for me. I love working with children. The studying part is easy to understand and the tutors explain everything so clearly. I can work and study at the same time, which I really enjoy it.” She also cherishes the playful side of her role: “There are times where I will sit down and play with them. I am just having fun with the children, they’re adorable.”
For anyone considering a childcare apprenticeship, Laiba has some simple advice: “I would tell them to apply for Swift. They’re really quick with everything. I didn’t expect to get an interview and a job in the same week. The support I got and how fast they replied was amazing.”
Laiba’s story is a perfect example of how Swift Childcare creates pathways for learners to thrive, combining practical experience, personalised support and clear, easy-to-follow learning.
